Throw a Row – Connect 4 Basketball Game Hire
Throw a Row is Fun4Events’ multiplayer Connect 4-style basketball game, combining basketball shooting with a giant four-in-a-row team challenge.

Players compete as the Pink Team and Blue Team, taking shots at seven basketball hoops to drop their coloured basketballs into the giant game board. The challenge is to be the first team to connect four balls in a row, horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
Simple to understand, brilliantly competitive and designed to involve a whole group, Throw a Row is ideal for corporate events, team building, company fun days, exhibitions, conferences and staff parties.
How does Throw a Row work?
Think giant Connect 4, played with basketballs.
Instead of dropping counters into the top of a traditional game, players choose which column they want and have to score a basket to get their ball into it.
The basketball then drops into the corresponding column on the game board.
Pink Team and Blue Team take turns shooting, trying to build a line of four of their own coloured basketballs.
The first team to get four in a row wins.
Sounds straightforward.
Until the other team blocks the exact space you needed.
🏀 Now you’ve got a game.
A multiplayer basketball team game
Although Throw a Row is based around two competing colours, it isn’t restricted to just two players.
It’s designed as a multiplayer team game.
Split your guests into Pink Team and Blue Team, line them up and rotate the shooter after each attempt. Suddenly everyone has a reason to watch every shot.
That makes Throw a Row particularly good for corporate events. A department can take on another department, tables can compete against each other, or teams can progress through tournament rounds to find an overall champion.
There’s strategy involved too.
Do you go for the obvious winning shot?
Do you block the opposition?
Or do you completely ignore the advice being shouted at you by six colleagues and launch the ball at whichever hoop takes your fancy?
Connect 4 basketball with a difference
People searching for this type of activity may know it as Connect 4 Basketball, Basketball Connect 4, Four in a Row Basketball or Giant Basketball Connect 4.
We’ve called our version Throw a Row.
It takes the familiar four-in-a-row concept and turns it into a physical basketball challenge where accuracy, tactics and teamwork all matter.
And because the basketballs remain visible in the giant game board, everyone can immediately see how the game is developing.
You don’t need to explain a complicated scoring system. Pink balls versus blue balls. Get four in a row.
Game on.
Perfect for corporate events and team building
Throw a Row has been designed with group participation in mind.
It’s particularly suited to corporate events because players don’t need any previous basketball experience and games can be played relatively quickly, allowing plenty of people to take part throughout an event.
Use it as a standalone attraction or incorporate it into a larger team competition where groups collect points across several Fun4Events activities.
Throw a Row is a great choice for:
- Corporate team building events
- Company fun days
- Staff parties and summer parties
- Conferences and away days
- Exhibitions and trade shows
- Brand activations
- University and college events
- School events
- Family fun days
- Competitive games packages
Easy to play. Not always easy to win.
One of the reasons Connect 4 basketball games work so well at events is that the rules are immediately familiar.
You don’t need a ten-minute briefing before anybody can play.
Choose your team. Choose your hoop. Take your shot.
Score and your basketball joins the board.
But once several balls are in play, Throw a Row becomes much more tactical.
You might be one basket away from victory while the other team is simultaneously building a diagonal line on the opposite side of the board.
That’s usually the point where previously mild-mannered colleagues begin shouting tactical instructions from three metres away.
A brilliant spectator game
Throw a Row isn’t just entertaining for the people shooting.
The giant game board means spectators can see Pink Team and Blue Team battling for control of the board in real time.
Every successful basket changes the game.
Near misses matter. Blocking shots matter. And when a team has three balls lined up with one space remaining, everybody knows exactly which hoop they’re aiming for next.
That makes Throw a Row particularly effective where you want activities that create interaction, competition and atmosphere, rather than games people quietly play and wander away from.
Add Throw a Row to a bigger games package
Throw a Row can be hired individually or combined with other Fun4Events activities to create a larger corporate games or team building package.
Mix physical challenges, skill games and interactive activities together and divide your guests into teams to compete for points throughout the event.
Throw a Row works particularly well alongside basketball challenges, Strike a Light, funfair stalls, giant games, sports day activities and other competitive team games.
We can help you put together a combination of activities to suit your venue, number of guests and style of event.
